The Moore Ranch is a working ranch in the wide open prairie about 45 miles southwest of historic Dodge City, Kansas. We usually have about 300 Texas Longhorn cattle at the ranch and about 50 horses, depending on the season and how the weather treats what's growing on the prairie.
Our home place is about 1,400 acres, but we run on up to 6,000 acres of rolling hills, trees, creeks, and rocky hillsides. It's beautiful country. We are ranchers. We work cattle, herd cattle, brand cattle, and mend fences; and now, we invite you to join us.
Real Ranch ExperienceSince 1998, we've invited folks to share our life on the ranch. We have a number of cabins in which you can stay. Home-cooked meals are served family-style at our table or outside at the picnic table around the fire. We are not a "dude ranch" and there are no "put ons" here. Our ranch family simply shares our daily experiences with our visitors.
Guests experience a true day in the life of a working cowboy. Guests may
awake at sunrise to the sound of the roosters crowing and join the family in the morning chores. After a hearty breakfast, you can help saddle up the horses.
The rest of the day may include riding ranch horses through the longhorn herd, herding the longhorns to new pasture, riding over the prairie while monitoring for wildlife, learning to rope a calf, or even branding the longhorns with a hot branding iron. After supper, the evening may be spent relaxing by a fire and watching the embers fade or enjoying the stars and the quiet stillness of the prairie.
Cattle Drives are exciting events. Two day Cattle Drives are available when we are moving the longhorns in the summer time. The herd is driven
eight miles to new pasture across an open expanse of rolling prairie. The next day, ranch horses are ridden back to the ranch.
Three day Cattle Drives are offered in April and October. The distance traveled on these drives is about 30-35 miles. On all these drives, camp is set up with a chuckwagon and cowboy teepees. Sleeping arrangements for the night are in bedrolls either under the stars or in cowboy teepees.
Please check our events calendar for special events, or contact us anytime to arrange a visit to the Moore Ranch. We offer daily ranch vacations, cowboy schools, and cowgirl weekends.
